Cuisinart FP-14DC Introduction

From their very conception back in the late 1940s food processors have always been known for their versatility. 70 years ago the first food processor also powered a vacuum cleaner attachment. The Cuisinart brand was the first food processor introduced in to the US in 1973. Today’s food processors don’t go quite that far but they still remain a very versatile kitchen appliance. They will chop grate and mix. All the monotonous, repetitive labor intensive jobs can be done in a fraction of the time with a modern food processor.

The Cuisinart FP-14DC takes this versatility a stage further. It can slice any thickness between 1 mm and 6 mm (that is less than 1/16 inch to ¼ inch) thanks to the adjustable slicing blade. The reversible shredding disc can either shred medium or fine. There are two chopping blades, a large and a small one, both made from stainless steel. And the Cuisinart FP-14DC is never too big or too small. Although it is promoted for its 14 cup capacity it actually has three separate bowls, a small bowl with 4 ½ cup capacity, a medium bowl with an 11 cup capacity and the largest bowl with the 14 cup capacity. All the bowls come with a drip free pouring spout and are marked with various measurements.

The Cuisinart FP-14DC also has a SealTight lid. This overcomes a problem that has been prevalent with food processors since their development – that fact that they can leak liquids when too full. The power comes from a very powerful 1000 watt electric motor. While the Cuisinart FP-14DC has a long 3 year warranty, the 1000 watt motor has an incredible 20 year warranty. The power cord is retractable and when in use only as much cord as is needed can be pulled out avoiding having excess wires getting in the way of your food preparation.

Our Cuisinart FP-14DC Review

Physically the Cuisinart FP-14DC measures 11 ¾ inches x 11 ¼ inches x 17 inches high, it weighs 23 ½ lbs. The Cuisinart FP-14DC is described as a 14 cup food processor but it is actually 3 food processors in one package. It has 3 different sized bowls, a 4 ½ cup bowl, an 11 cup bowl and the 14 cup bowl. So no matter what it is you are processing there will be a suitable sized bowl for you to work with. All the bowls have the SealTight lid.

Cuisinart FP-14DC Food Processor

The SealTight lids locks the blades and seals the lids so that the maximum capacity can be used without the risk of spillage of liquids, a common problem with many other food processors. The extra wide mouth of the feed tube is a real bonus, especially if you are preparing lots of larger fruits or vegetable as it does save a great deal of pre-chopping before you can process the food. There are 2 chopping blades included with the processor a small and a larger blade.

Both use the blade lock system which ensures that the blades are kept in position whether chopping (or mixing) or pouring but they can be released when you need to. The smaller blade is used with the 4 ½ cup work bowl and the larger is used in the medium and large bowls. The slicing disc is fully adjustable allowing slices to be cut ranging from less than 1/16 inch thick right up to ¼ inch thick. When it comes to shredding there is a choice of either medium or fine grades.

To swap from on to the other all that need to be done is to flip the blade over. The blades that are included with the Cuisinart FP-14DC are very sharp and care needs to be taken when handling them. A very useful item that is included with this food processor is a storage bow. The storage box holds all the tools and blades that come with the Cuisinart FP-14DC. This is a much safer option than having them stored loose as is often the case. Additionally the fact that the blades are stored in the case prevents them getting nicked and damaged if stored loose. As an additional safety feature to prevent small hands getting hold of the blades, the storage box is also lockable.

The Cuisinart FP-14DC comes with a comprehensive instruction manual but, as is often said, a picture paints a thousand words. So to assist you in getting the most from your Cuisinart FP-14DC food processor there is also a very helpful DVD included as well. A short time spent watching this will show you the full range of operations available as well as how you can get the best from your appliance, included are tips and advice to show you easier ways to achieve your aims. Tips like the easiest way to make nut butters and which cheeses slice best at room temperature and which are best chilled first.

The Cuisinart FP-14DC is promoted as being 3 food processors in 1. By which they mean it comes with 3 differently sized chopping bowls. If you have ever tried to chop small quantities in a large bowl or make large quantities using a small bowl you will really appreciate the variety of sizes available to suit your particular requirement at the time.

The option of having a very large feed tube adds to the labor saving efficiency of the Cuisinart FP-14DC by you not having to pre-chop fruits and vegetables to be able to fit them in to the feed tube before you even start processing them. A perennial problem with food processors is that they often have a tendency to leak when large amounts of liquids are being processed in the bowl. T

he SealTight lid (which is for all 3 size bowls) is specifically designed to prevent this being a problem in the case of the Cuisinart FP-14DC. The power cable is retractable so that when you are working there is no excess cable laying on the counter top to get in the way of your work. It firmly scores a spot in our top 5 list for being an all-round remarkable food processor – and one of the best food processors we have tried to date.
